Megan Lindholm's Novels

Here you will find a brief description of each of my novels written as Megan Lindholm. I've added some covers from various publishers and countries. Please note that all of the Lindholm books are out of print in the US, but some are still available in English from Voyager in the UK. They can be ordered from the British Amazon site, at www.amazon.co.uk

Harpy's Flight

Harpy's Flight was my first novel, published by Ace Paperbacks in 1983. It began the adventures of the duo Ki and Vandien, roving teamsters for hire. The characters had first appeared in a short story "Bones for Dulath" in the anthology AMAZONS! edited by Jessica Amanda Salmonson and published by Daw Books in 1981. Republished in the UK in 2001 by Voyager with this wonderful cover by John Howe.

The Windsingers

The Windsingers was my second volume about Ki and Vandien, in which they encounter the women who control the weather of their world and a wizard, in several parts. Published by Ace in 1984, Reissued in the UK in 2002 by Voyager.

The Limbreth Gate

Ki and Vandien again. Another encounter with the wizard Dresh, and a gateway to a different world. Ace, 1984. Reissued in the UK in 2002 by Voyager.

Wizard of the Pigeons

Wizard of the Pigeons was a Nebula finalist and a Nominee for the Theodore Sturgeon Award. This book was a contemporary fantasy set in Seattle about a Vietnam Vet living on the streets and working his own special magic there. Even after all these years, it remains one of my favorites. Originally published by Ace in 1986. The cover shown is from a much more recent French edition from Telemaque.

The Reindeer People

Published in 1988 by Ace. This was a quasi-historical novel with elements of shamanic magic. Although originally written as a single book, the second half was published separately as Wolf's Brother in 1988. They were also published in the UK by Unwin Hyman in 1989. In 2001, they were reissued in the UK by Voyager, with incredible cover art by John Howe.

Luck of the Wheels

In 1989, I once more returned to the world of Ki and Vandien. This was to be my last book for Ace and thus, alas, their final adventure.

Cloven Hooves

I never know quite what to say about this book. Cloven Hooves is a very weird book, and very intense. This was my first venture into novel length first person narrative, and very nearly my last. It was exhausting to write. The question I am most often asked is, "Is it autobiographical?" The answer is, "No more so than any of my books."

Alien Earth

This is my sole novel-length venture into Science Fiction. I still have mixed feelings about whether or not I succeeded. Alien Earth was published in 1992 by Bantam Books in the US.

The Gypsy

Originally published in 1992 by St. Martin's Press. This was a collaboration with Steven Brust. It was re-issued from Orb in April, 2005. Writing this book was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my writing life, and rejuvenated my attitude toward story telling. Steve and I never wrote an outline or pre-determined the ending, but simply followed the story to its natural close. It re-awoke in me all the reasons why I had become a writer, and in may ways, gave me the impetus to write Assassin's Apprentice. I recommend, without reservation, any books written by Steven Brust. They are more than a pleasure to read; they are stories that will bear looking at from several angles.
